The UCR School of Public Policy (SPP) and Graduate School of Education (GSOE) have entered into a shared services agreement whereby the two schools share resources to achieve greater efficiency at lower operational cost. Here are answers to some questions you might have about this exciting new change:
-
Where will public policy majors or minors like me be advised?
Your academic advisor and the peer academic advisors are located at the Education and Public Policy Undergraduate Advising Center in Sproul 1223. You can find a map here. A study room is also open for public policy students in Sproul 1206. When using the space please be sure to add your name to the sign in sheet and follow posted guidelines.
-
Do I have a new advisor? Am I going to receive advising from the GSOE?
Deisy Vaca, the SPP undergraduate academic advisor, and SPP Peer Academic Advisors will continue to advise all public policy majors and minors. You will not be receiving advising from the GSOE. However, the shared services transition allows for backups in case of extended absences; in such cases, your advisor will notify you of who her backup might be.
-
How do I make an appointment with my advisor?
All advising will take place during walk-in advising hours: view walk-in advising information.
-
Will there be new requirements for public policy majors?
No, the public policy major requirements will stay the same. Please consult with your academic advisor if you have any questions about your degree requirements.
-
Is all of public policy moving to the GSOE?
No, the public policy major is still part of the SPP. The SPP and the GSOE will continue to be separate, and each school will continue to have its own faculty. We are just sharing staff resources behind the scenes to increase efficiencies.
-
Has the rest of the SPP moved to Sproul?
No, only the advising staff are housed in Sproul. The SPP Dean's Office, Finance Office, Marketing & Events Center (home of the ambassadors) and Research Centers all remain housed on the fourth floor of INTS.
